2023 December 22, together with 53 art institutions we spreaded a clear message of peace by hoisting the White Flag With Watermark as a reaction to all the wars in the world.
The watermark on the artwork indicates the sour point; the hard fact that peace can not be considered as a common good, freely available for everyone. The watermark is a metaphor for the toll, which is immense all over the world: more than 4 million people are on the run in Sudan, more than 20 000 innocent people are killed in Gaza, more than 10 000 civilian deaths are counted in Ukraine, the conflict in Yemen lasts already for 8 years now, resulting in one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. The worldwide list doesn’t stop here.
This action is intended as a call for peace, worldwide. For peace equals for justice, against war, against occupation, against genocide, against violence,… anywhere, anytime.
Thanks to all 53 cultural institutes in Belgium and the Netherlands for caring.
