“Sorry” acknowledges a wrongdoing or an oversight, yet the subsequent “It wasn’t me” denies all responsibility, which is typical for our contemporary attitude towards accountability.
“Sorry It Wasn’t Me” serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility. It invites us all to reflect on our own actions and the broader societal tendency to avoid responsibility while maintaining a veneer of politeness and remorse.
This work is set up in two different ways: as a soundpiece where an AI generated voices say the text every minute with a different emotion. Secondly as an installation that plays with the celebratory nature of balloons and touches the theme of responsibility. By adorning the façade of the Ilulissat Art Museum in Greenland (August 2024) with balloons typically used for joyful occasions such as birthdays or graduations, the artwork undermines their traditional context to speak out an apology which is at the same time a denial of responsibility. The medium and the message are completely opposite
